We are looking for a Systems  Architect to join our team and lead the design, development, and integration of high-performance systems. The project that requires your skills is contributing to building the world's largest radio telescope in which TOPIC’s focus is on the central signal processing capabilities. In this role, you will be responsible for ensuring the seamless operation and scalability of the systems used in the telescope’s data processing and signal detection functionalities. You will work closely with interdisciplinary teams of engineers, researchers, system engineers and stakeholders to ensure the technical success of the project.


Key Responsibilities:

  • Support the design and architecture of the various complex systems within the project.
  • Analyze and adapt system requirements and translate them into solutions.
  • Oversee the integration of hardware and software components to ensure seamless system performance.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams, including software developers, hardware engineers, integration and test engineers and project managers, to ensure timely delivery of project milestones.
  • Monitor and optimize system performance, scalability, and reliability.
  • Support testing and validation activities to ensure systems meet the requirements of the project.
  • Provide technical leadership and mentorship to junior engineers within the project team, and broader team.
  • Maintain up-to-date knowledge of industry trends and emerging technologies in embedded systems, particularly in radio telescopy and signal processing.

Job requirements

  • Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, Systems Engineering or a related field;
  • 10+ years of experience of which a minimum 5 years of experience as a system architect;
  • Proven experience with large-scale, high-performance systems;
  • Knowledge of signal processing, real-time systems, and radio frequency (RF) technologies is highly desirable;
  • Strong understanding of systems architecture, including hardware and software integration;
  • Familiarity with Agile project management and systems engineering processes, SAFe is highly valued;
  • Experience working with interdisciplinary teams in a collaborative environment;
  • Strong problem-solving skills and the ability to work in a fast-paced, dynamic environment;
  • Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal, in English (Dutch is a plus).
